Sunglasses are made glueing many layers of wood (also known as Veneer). Species of wood used are Ebony, Anigre, Walnut, Padauk, Tulipe Dyed Black.
Are these sunglasses made of Bamboo? Bamboo is a different category of wood that is cheaper than natural wood and sunglasses that are made of bamboo, are made from a solid piece of bamboo. Sunglasses that are made of many layers glued together are much stronger.
From the Creator and Designer:
I was first introduced to woodworking when I was 8 years old. My dear uncle, who visited us in Greece every summer, bought me my first woodworking tools and taught me how to use them. During the time I spent with him, he passed down to me his love for his art, the patience and care that is needed when working with this beautiful material. I wasn't lucky enough to have him by my side as I was growing up and getting to an age where I started using power tools and developing my skills. I named my brand after him, Heywood when I started making wooden sunglasses to honour him, as it's thanks to him that I took up woodworking and found my calling. With every new piece I produce, I'd like to think I am making him proud.
Heywood Eyewear was born to honour an exceptional man and his love for nature. His second passion was gardening and together with my late aunt, they had created a tranquil oasis in their backyard in Pershore, UK, full of flowers and fruit trees. The same way he respected mother nature, we take the precious good we are given and make something unique and eco-friendly for every customer.
We wish to make every customer feel special by producing a unique handmade pair of sunglasses or accessory. In every item we produce, we incorporate our love for wood and a bit of Greek sun! By entering the global market, we'd like to get our products around the world and show everyone how sustainable products can be beautiful.
